We understand the value of a budget and we do not believe in hidden or surprise fees. Moving is stressful enough without smoke and mirrors.

We have provided the exact formulas that we use below to help you determine how much your move will cost.

Estimates do not include additional trucks or trailers, which may be required for larger moves or extra travel charges over 40 miles. Totals estimated are non-peak rates.

The one formula that we find most effective is to calculate by square footage. The average furnished home will hold about five lbs of household goods per square foot of heated space. This would exclude garage, most attics, porches, decks, yards and sheds. A home that has all these extras would probably require a free and quick at home survey to determine accurate costs, but for simpler moves the formula works well.

Experience has taught us that a hardworking mover can move an average of 4-500 lbs per hour from origin to destination excluding driving time. This includes disassembly, reassembly, and placement of items at the owner's discretion.

For example, by using the formula above, a home that is 2,000 square feet would have an approximate weight of 10,000 lbs. (5 lbs X 2000 Sq Ft.) From experience, we know our staff can move an average 2000 square ft home in 8 hours -- 417 lbs per man hour.

On smaller moves such as apartments, the action is usually a bit faster since the residence area is smaller, and for a first floor apartment to another first floor apartment we would yield about 500 lbs per man hour. An average one bedroom apartment is about 4000 lbs. An average 2 bedroom apartment is about 5,000 lbs. An average 3 bedroom apartment is about 6000 lbs. Thus, for a three man crew to move an average two bedroom apartment, we would expect just over 3 hours of work time. If the apartment is upstairs, we can expect roughly to add half an hour per flight to the equation.

As a rule of thumb, an average first floor one bedroom apartment should take a three man crew less than 3 hours, a two bedroom 3-4 hours, and a three bedroom 4-5 hours. This includes disassembly, reassembly, and placement of items at the owner's discretion.

Our 3 man staff can relocate an average 1500 square foot house in about 6 hours or a 2000 square foot house, or about 8 hours of work time, and can usually complete the job with one truck in one trip.

If we use additional staff members to a larger move, we charge an additional $25.00 per hour for the first man and $20 per hour for additional men thereafter.

On larger moves, it becomes more complicated because the shipment may not all fit into one truck and one trip. In that case, we may opt to use a trailer, or more than one truck, or multiple trips, depending on which would be the least expensive for the client. On houses exceeding 2500 square feet, we will often opt to provide a survey so that our estimate is more accurate.
